Dr. Mayron Piccolo
Dr. Mayron Piccolo is a psychopathologist and behavior analyst, and is currently a College Fellow in the Department of Psychology, working in the Clinical Research Lab with Dr. Jill Hooley. He is originally from Brazil, where he received a master's in Behavior Analysis at Universidade Estadual de Londrina. Following that, he was awarded a Swiss Excellence Scholarship by the Swiss Federal Confederation, which allowed him to pursue a doctorate in Psychology at the University of Fribourg, studying reward processing and eating behaviors (including eating disorders). As part of his doctorate, he was then awarded a doctoral mobility fellowship to work with Prof. Kristin Javaras and Prof. Diego Pizzagalli at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where he focused on the neural signature of individuals presenting with different appetite/weight phenotypes in major depressive disorder.
Mayron is currently exploring the use of music as a social reward to improve mental health in immigrants and refugees, in collaboration with Prof. Jill Hooley and Prof. Celio Estanislau (Universidade Estadual de Londrina, Brazil). Additionally, thanks to the generous Talley Fund, he is getting ready to investigate the effects of a communal music-making intervention in a group of pre-school children. If you would like to apply for a research assistant position as part of this project, please email Dr. Piccolo your CV and a motivation statement.
